This course introduces the principles of attachment theory and explores how early relationships with caregivers influence a child’s emotional development, behaviour, and future relationships. Participants will learn about the different attachment styles, the importance of providing a secure base, and how attachment difficulties can present in children and young people who have experienced trauma or disruption in their early lives.
The course also introduces the PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) as a practical framework for building trust, safety, and secure relationships with children in care. By the end of the course, carers will have a greater understanding of attachment needs and how to respond in ways that promote connection, security, and emotional wellbeing.
